Adjara

Adjara is located in the south-east of Georgia, on the coast of Black Sea. Adjara can be divided in two parts upper and lower Adjara. The central part is called Shuakhevi. According to the religious history the spreading of Christianity in Georgia started from the Adjara region in the first century by Andrew the Apostle. However, Adjara is religiously diverse region because of its Muslim neighbor. Dance festivals, different sport competitions, chess championships and many other different activities are often held in Adjara. Adjarian dance is one of the favorite dances for Georgians. The main city of Adjara region is Batumi. Batumi is the port city and it is one of the most attractive destinations for tourists due to its modern infrastructure and outstanding beauty. Adjarian’s occupation is agriculture, beekeeping but the most popular is fishing. So it follows that Adjarian cuisine is famous for the variety of sea products. It presents the mixture of Turkish and Georgian cuisines. The most famous Adjarian dish is Adjarian Khachapuri which is made of cheese, eggs and butter and is very popular in Georgia. In Adjara you can see churches, castles, fortresses and also mosques. There are very interesting bridges built some centuries ago and very beautiful Botanical Garden with the sea view.
