Samtskhe-Javakheti

Samtskhe-Javakheti is located in Southern Georgia. In Samtskhe-Javakheti n the river Kvabliani basin there is a flora defined by the tertiary period. This place is known as "Goderdzi's forest". Javakheti National Park is one of the main places where you can see many birds. Christmas, New Year and day after New Year (bedoba) are especially celebrated in Samtskhe-Javakheti. In the old generation there is a great variety of rituals on the festive days. Samtskhe-Javakheti was considered as the homeland of wheat and vine. During the archaeological excavations, the wine utensils were found in places where the vine did not grow for centuries. The population also actively follows beekeeping. In Samtskhe-Javakheti salted and dried meat is considered as a delicacy, as well as a traditional dish - apokhti. Also, the snails are spread in the region from the french catholics living here. The locals prepare honey - Bakmaz from the fruit of the mulberry. Samtskhe-Javakheti is rich with monuments of cultural heritage - the monastery that survived from the early period of time, tombs, fences, towers, etc. Akhaltsikhe region is one of the main and important recreational areas with medicinal resorts, such as Borjomi and others.
