Shida Kartli

Shida Kartli region is located in eastern Georgia. The high rindges of the Caucasus and Trialeti are located in the south and north of Shida Kartli. The southern part of the region consists of a major road and rail line of Georgia and has a large industrial potential. For example, the city of Gori is a center of gardening and is famous for its delicious apples. The occupation of Shida Kartli population is horticulture, viticulture and other fields of farming. The region is popular with the big amount of medicinal waters. The public holiday "Okonoba" is a sample of old tradition which is held every year. The celebration is especially celebrated by concerts, marching, barbecue and so on. The celebration is related to the icon of "Okon" which was considered as the patron of Gori since the 12th century. In Shida Kartli, along with soups, various greens and vegetables we often meet the preserved products. Very popular home-made preserved product is Jonjoli. In Shida Kartli we meet many centuries-old beautiful churches and the cave town of Uplistsikhe.
