Imereti

Imereti is one of the historical and geographical regions of western Georgia. Its main city is Kutaisi which was the capital of the ancient Kolkheti Kingdom. Kutaisi is one of the oldest antique cities in the world, according to mythological sources, it is about 3500 years old. Imereti is divided into upper and lower Imereti. The natural boundaries of Imereti pass through the mountains and valleys on each side. Its forests are distinguished with diverse flora and fauna. Imereti has highly developed spiritual, economic and material culture. The population is mainly occupied by agriculture and the great variety of unique vines come here. Urban songs accompanied with guitar are very popular in Imereti during Imeruli Supra and they are integral part of it. The dishes in Imereti are made of locally grown products. Imeruli satsivi, khachapuri, meat of the bird and pkhali are especially delicious and popular. Imeretians especially love chicken made in blackberry or grape juice. Most of the dishes are prepared in clay vessels and they are decorated with herbs. Imereti is rich with cultural monuments, landscapes and caves.
